A: Although no place is absolutely safe anymore, Ciudad Acuna is still a very quiet, very clean little
border town. We eat over there frequently, and have no qualms about sending people over for a
shopping trip or a good meal. Cabs to and from are plentiful, and recommended. You must purchase
special Mexican insurance to take a rental car across the border, and we cannot let our courtesy car
go across due to commercial vehicle issues. There are many good restaurants along the main
shopping street, Hidalgo. Crosby's and Manuel's are very popular. You will have to have a passport to
return to the United States by January 2008. The Del Rio Chamber of Commerce has an excellent
summary of good tips for crossing.
